Roe v. Wade overturned

Friends:

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade – scrapping decades of legal precedent that has protected every American’s freedom to control their own bodies, make their own health care decisions, and decide their own futures.

It’s hard to overstate just how catastrophic the consequences of this disastrous decision will be. For millions of women, it means abortion care will be out of reach. For others, it means that an unplanned pregnancy will forever change the trajectory of their lives.

The Roberts Court’s ruling to overturn Roe is completely out of step with the American people’s overwhelming belief that reproductive care decisions should be made by patients and physicians – not politicians. It’s a true slap in the face to you and me and every American who cares about individual freedom. That’s why we remain more committed than ever to protecting the freedom of every American to make decisions about their own bodies, families, and futures.

Make no mistake. We will fight this decision every day until all Americans have their constitutional rights restored.

NewDems led the way to protect reproductive rights by acting months ago to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill to enshrine Roe in federal law and combat dangerous state-level restrictions on reproductive health care nationwide. While Senate Republicans failed to join us in passing this bill, today’s ruling renews our commitment to continue pushing for legislation to protect and defend reproductive freedom. There is too much on the line for too many of us. Inaction is not an option.

Now, the power is in your hands. You have the power to reverse this decision. In November, we need to elect a Democratic House and Senate that will pass a bill to restore abortion rights.

While the Supreme Court’s ruling today is a devastating blow to our progress, this will not be the end of reproductive freedom in America – it will be the beginning of a new wave of activism, advocacy, and work to defend it.
