This morning, the Supreme Court’s conservative majority overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the federally-protected right to a safe and legal abortion. It’s a devastating and dangerous decision that takes away fundamental rights and bodily autonomy from pregnant people, and will disproportionately impact people of color, people in rural communities, people with lower income, and women.

The radical right has been chipping away at reproductive rights for decades, nominating increasingly extreme GOP candidates at all levels of government, and stacking the courts to do their political bidding. We’ve all but known the outcome of this case since Justice Alito’s draft decision leaked in May, but the reality of this news is no less devastating. What continues to bring us hope in this moment, is how Swing Left volunteers and donors have been able to turn anger and anguish into action.

Over the last month, this community came together to: 

- [Contribute tens of thousands of dollars to abortion access funds]([link removed]) in states where abortion will be outlawed in Roe’s absence.
- [Support pro-choice Democrats running in key races]([link removed]), including Democratic gubernatorial and state legislative candidates who, when elected, will help serve as critical defense against the GOP’s efforts to outlaw abortion at the state level.
- [Write more than 1 million voter turnout letters with Vote Forward]([link removed]) to remind voters what’s at stake in this year’s midterm elections.

Each of these actions is now more important than ever. So, let's continue to support those in need of abortions and work to elect Democrats across the country this fall. Find a way to take action above [or by joining an event near you]([link removed]).

Although we’re upset, frustrated, and angry, we’re also so encouraged to see this grassroots community come together to keep fighting for progress. In 2018, your efforts helped take back the House, and in 2020 you helped take back the White House and Senate. At the most trying times, this community continues to take meaningful action to meet the moment, however difficult it may be. The work we’re doing together to elect Democrats will continue to make an impact on the future of abortion access and reproductive justice in our country.

We remain resolute in our mission to defeat GOP extremism and elect more Democrats up and down the ballot in this year’s midterms and in elections to come. And we remain hopeful because of your incredible dedication to this cause. We’re honored to be working toward progress alongside you.
