You would think that the leaked decision would have prepared me for the pain I’m feeling right now – but it did not. Although we expected this after the leaked draft opinion previewing the reversal of Roe v. Wade, nothing could have prepared me for what I am feeling right now. Pain, sadness, concern, uncertainty, a desire to fight!

The Supreme Court has ruled to officially repeal a woman's right to make her own critical healthcare decisions. With today’s opinion, every woman in America has lost her freedom and autonomy. For decades, Roe guaranteed a woman’s right to make reproductive decisions about her own body and the right to choose when to have a baby.

I’m livid. Extremists have hurled us back almost a century – and it is our friends, our neighbors, our sisters, our wives and our daughters who will suffer now that reproductive healthcare will be dictated by government intervention.

My ask to you today is urgent: Our pro-choice House majority is one of the last things standing between the most fundamental access to autonomy and healthcare and the total evisceration of women’s rights. With Roe dismantled, the GOP will now turn all of their attention to gaining control of Congress – so they can continue to pass legislation that restricts our rights to healthcare and reproductive choice.

And their top target to get anti-choice control of the House is CT-05. Me. Kevin McCarthy and his anti-choice party would love nothing more than to unseat a pro-choice champion in Connecticut and gain a new vote for the GOP’s dangerous anti-family, anti-women agenda.

We cannot let that happen. We need a pro-choice majority in the House to act and enshrine the protections of Roe v. Wade into law by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act.
