Today, the Supreme Court handed down its devastating decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, overruling decades of precedent and undermining our freedom to make fundamental decisions about our bodies and the direction of our lives.

Now, we need to prepare for the path ahead.

For years, we’ve watched Republican legislatures across the country pass trigger laws that ban abortion as soon as the decision was handed down. People seeking abortion and reproductive care from those states will be forced to travel to get the care they need.

Washington Democrats took a stand to prioritize the expansion of critical reproductive healthcare, including increasing funding for health centers that provide abortion care and protecting patients and providers themselves.

We must continue to prioritize reproductive justice. The Supreme Court’s decision on Roe shows that our rights can be overturned if we don’t stay vigilant and prioritize the fight against the extremism we’ve seen all the way from the Supreme Court down to Republicans here in Washington — because we know they won’t stop here.

Republicans in the Washington legislature introduce harmful bills every session to restrict access to abortion and other reproductive health care – and our Democratic majority is the only thing standing in their way.
