One Story You Should Know About
The United States Supreme Court Overturns Roe v. Wade
Today, the conservative majority of the United States Supreme Court overturned case precedent and dismantled the landmark rulings Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. You can read the Court's full opinion here.
Abortion bans are expected in over half of U.S. states (with notably few exemptions for rape and incest). For a full breakdown of which states will place bans, when the bans will take effect, which states will protect reproductive healthcare and more, please click here.
While this ruling directly impacts abortion access, Justice Thomas used the piece to state, "In future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.” This should be considered a call for legal challenges to bodily autonomy, the right to privacy, the right to love whom you wish and more.
This case is the beginning of another long fight to restore abortion access and fully enshrine equality at all levels of government. As Victory Fund President & CEO Mayor Parker noted: "lawmakers must now determine what freedoms we have and which we don’t for the foreseeable future. We call on policymakers in all branches and at all levels of government to use every tool available to fight to keep abortion legal and accessible." Read our full statement here.

Today and all days, we are proud to only endorse pro-choice LGBTQ candidates, as we have done since our founding 31 years ago. As Justices Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan wrote: "The Court departs from its obligation to faithfully and impartially apply the law. We dissent."
