John – Congress had five long decades to codify Roe into law. Instead they have allowed a fundamental human right to hinge on the fig leaf of Supreme Court precedent.
That fig leaf was just ripped away by the court’s 6-3 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health. Roe v Wade has been thrown out by a Supreme Court packed with far-right extremists. It’s time for Congress to step up. There are a number of remedies we can pursue, and all options must be on the table. Here are just a few: -
Abolish the Jim Crow filibuster
- Pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify Roe TODAY
- Pass the Equality Act
- Expand the Supreme Court
Make no mistake, what’s happening goes far beyond abortion. In his concurring opinion to the 6-3 decision, Clarence Thomas took direct aim at LGBTQIA rights, contraception – and by extension, countless other civil liberties. |
