The Supreme Court has overturned Roe vs. Wade, eviscerating women’s rights. This opens the floodgates for Republican-dominated states to ban abortion, attacking the bodily autonomy of all people. Lives, health, and futures will be lost, as people are forced to carry unwanted pregnancies. Working-class people, especially those most oppressed by racism, sexism, and transphobia, will pay the highest price. We cannot accept this.
Seattle DSA's Local Council and DSA reproductive rights activists agreed to join the Reproductive Justice Coalition. Our coalition will protest TODAY, Friday, June 24th at 5 pm at the Federal Building downtown at 915 2nd Ave (at Madison St). Please join us and invite others. Please “like” and share DSA social media posts about this protest to spread the word.
DSA printed picket signs and flyers to hand out at this protest. Please arrive by 4 pm if you can help assemble picket signs and set up the DSA tent.
Our flyer argues that we cannot accept this unpopular attack from the Supreme Court, which is opposed by 69% of the population. We can – and must – build a mass movement to defend and extend reproductive rights. Toward that end, our flyers and picket signs urge activists to pressure mass organizations, particularly Planned Parenthood, the Women's March organization, and AFL-CIO, to use their authority to call a Million Person March on Washington in September. DSA on our own cannot call a Million Person March, but we can pressure bigger organizations to do this.
