What just happened is sickening. Unconscionable. Friend, six conservative U.S. Supreme Court justices just betrayed their own promised commitment to legal precedent and eviscerated the freedom of women to make their own healthcare decisions.

The Court's decision is an endorsement of government control over personal health decisions – and it has greenlighted so-called "liberty-loving" Republicans' bans on abortions. The same Republicans who didn't want to be told to wear a mask on airplanes to keep everyone safe from COVID-19, are now perfectly happy to take complete control over the bodies and destinies of American women. It means more than 30 million women have been stripped of a fundamental human and civil right – in the United States of America.

I know you likely share my anger right now. Many of you are probably feeling sad, angry, scared, disgusted. But please, hear me when I say this: We will take this egregious decision back to the American people. They will very soon have a choice to strengthen the numbers of those who will enshrine federal abortion protections into law – or give power to a party that ignores the rule of law, attacks our democracy, and now steals women's freedom to control their own bodies.

The conservative-controlled Supreme Court may have abandoned our civil rights, but Democrats have not. That's why I'm resolved to win re-election, secure a working Democratic majority, and pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade into law.
