Dear John,

Today is a devastating day with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Let’s be clear what this decision will not do - it will not prevent women from seeking abortions. What this decision will do is force women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term, or seek dangerous and unregulated means for an abortion.

This decision will disproportionately impact women of color and poor women, like all policies built on inequity. It also removes all women's right to choose what happens to their own bodies.

Under this ruling, contraception, same-sex marriage, and other rights are now under attack. Illinois and Cook County will remain a safe haven for women, but as we deal with this harsh reality, we must continue to strengthen our resolve and fight back.

That's why I'm asking you today to fight back with your voices, with your wallets, and with your ballots.

Join the rally TONIGHT at Federal Plaza starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Chicago National Organization for Women and dozens of other allied organizations.

Donate to organizations doing the important work to ensure access to reproductive health services, like Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Midwest Access Coalition, and the Chicago Abortion Fund.

And vote this Tuesday, June 28th on Election Day, and make sure you vote pro-choice. Chicago residents click here, and Suburban Cook County residents click here for voting information.

We can fight against this, together.

Sincerely,

Toni Preckwinkle
