John, they did it. The Supreme Court just delivered their decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, effectively overturning Roe v. Wade and revoking federal protections for abortion. Even though we knew this decision was coming, it's still a profoundly heavy blow to our community. That’s why we’re reaching out to you today with a plan of action and encouragement to not lose hope. 

We should be mad, we should keep marching, and we should loudly and unapologetically demand that the highest court in our nation respect and uphold our fundamental rights. But we cannot wait for the ultra-conservative justices on the SCOTUS bench to have a change of heart. 

Instead, we must focus our efforts on the fight at the state level and local levels. Without federal protections, it's more important than ever that we concentrate on state legislatures, governorships, and local elected offices. So we urgently need to seize the moment and elect officials who will protect and expand abortion access NOW. 

This is a serious offensive strategy and despite the naysayers, we can and must succeed. The good news is that electing officials to champion our rights at every level of our government is already a core part of Emerge’s strategy – and we've proven that it works. 

Amid multiple intersecting crises, communities all over the country are rallying around Emerge alums and powering them to victory at the ballot box. So far, Emerge candidates have a 74 percent win rate in the critical primary elections this year. That means we have the power to defeat right-wing extremism and take charge of the direction of our country. But we need you to lean in with us. 

Those on the wrong side of history want you to feel powerless – but as a member of the Emerge community, you are part of the political transformation we urgently need right now. So please, if you haven’t already, consider running for office, encourage community champions in your life to run for office, and help us train, support, and elect bold Democratic women up and down the ballot this year. 

We are powerful together. Thank you for fighting beside us.
