John, While we know that the Roe decision was on its way and that it was likely to be a bad one, the reality of this situation became very real this morning with the release of the official SCOTUS ruling. There is no way to make this softer: This decision will have an immediate impact and consequences for the most vulnerable among and around us. And, based on what we are learning at this time, the long-term effects are likely to directly impact key judicial decisions that decriminalized our lives and established equal protection under the law for our relationships. I know that for many involved with PFLAG and in the fight for rights of LGBTQ+ people, today is going to feel crushing. This feels very much like the end in so many ways, but it isn't. It’s the beginning of a new fight, and one we’re going to be in for a long time. PFLAG is committed and will show up as we always have, ready to work and protect the lives of those we care for, and ourselves. But please know that to do this, you’ve got to start with caring for yourself today. Tomorrow, we rise again. In this together, Brian K. Bond (he/him), Executive Director PFLAG National | |
