Like any advocacy organization, Groundwork planned for this day with pits in our stomachs. We knew it was coming. We thought hard about how we would respond and channel our heartbreak and fury.
Now the SCOTUS decision is here and I’m sitting, frozen at my desk, struggling to finish this email, because nothing seems to adequately capture the anger and the anguish of this moment.
So I will simply share with you the one thing we here at Groundwork know to be true:
Local organizers in red states, where Groundwork focuses, have been on the frontlines of this fight for generations. The organizers we support have never had the luxury of assuming Roe was safe or settled law. They’ve been fighting back anti-abortion tidal waves their entire lives – largely under-funded, overlooked and ignored by national progressives. And at tremendous costs. (It was a case that started in our focus state of Mississippi that delivered us today’s SCOTUS ruling) .
These organizers are our guiding light in the fight ahead. The single most impactful action you can take today is to get them resources. That’s why we started Groundwork Project. Donate now & help us fund the organizers leading on the ground. [[link removed]]
Fund local organizers in red states who have been warning us about the GOP’s slow, strategic, and decades-long mission to make abortion illegal.
Fund local organizers in red states who were forced to navigate a post-Roe existence long before today, thanks to conservative state legislatures.
Fund local organizers in red states who go to hell and back every day to help their neighbors access reproductive health care.
Conservatives are cheering today because they spent decades organizing for this moment, from the ground up.
To fight back, we have to do the same. Join us, donate now. [[link removed]]
