We all saw this result coming, but that doesn’t make it any less shocking and upsetting. The Trump-stacked Supreme Court officially overturned the precedent of Roe v. Wade, and with it, revoked a constitutional freedom that we’ve held for 50 years.

This ruling will trigger immediate abortion bans in several states, leaving tens of millions of Americans without control over their own bodies and access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. With Roe overturned, states across the country can now criminalize abortion, threaten doctors with prison, and irreparably harm communities of color.

One thing is clear: this decision is the result of the GOP’s decades-long assault on our reproductive freedom and health care. Republicans will have to answer for their relentless attacks on our rights in November, and I encourage you to hold them accountable in every way possible.

I can promise you that I will never give up on reproductive rights. The Supreme Court may have overturned Roe v. Wade, but there is still so much that we can do to codify Roe, protect birth control and other forms of contraception, and block Republicans from implementing a nationwide abortion ban.
