This is a hard day for so many women across America. The right-wing activists who have been working in the shadows for decades have succeeded. As we feared, the Supreme Court has decided to defy nearly 50 years of precedent and deny women the fundamental right to choose.

This is a shocking and devastating setback for American women.

In 26 states, laws have already been passed – or will soon pass – that would strip rights from millions of women. This is especially harmful to those women – disproportionately poor women and women of color – who cannot take time off work or otherwise arrange to travel to New York and other states where the right to choose remains intact.

The House of Representatives has already voted to codify reproductive rights into federal law. Unfortunately, this act was blocked in the Senate through the outdated filibuster.
