Hi John,
We knew this was coming, but that doesn't make it any easier: The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade — ending 49 years of national reproductive freedom.
That means, now more than ever, we need people in office who are going to protect our freedom to choose what to do with our bodies. From our school boards to our state legislators, state and local officials are now at the front lines in the battle to protect abortion care.
So, what actions can you take to defend our right to safe, affordable, legal reproductive care?
-
Run for elected office. We need a coalition of diverse young progressives like you leading the charge to protect reproductive freedom. You may still have time to file in 2022, and it is never too early to start thinking about the coming years.
-
Donate to elect diverse young progressives who understand the importance of reproductive justice and your contribution will be DOUBLED thanks to a generous donor. Hundreds of Run for Something alums are already in state and local offices defending our right to bodily autonomy — and we need a lot more like them. We promise to continue to recruit pro-choice candidates who will continue this important work.
-
Donate to over 80 abortion funds that are working tirelessly to ensure people have access to safe abortions right now. These funds are on the front lines, providing financial and logistical support to anyone who may need it.
Today is devastating. The anger, horror, and fear you are feeling — we are feeling it too. But we also do the world no good if those feelings don't drive us to action.
This is a human rights issue. This is a health care issue. This is a criminal justice issue. This is an education issue. And we need to do everything we can to make sure we have the access and ability to make our own choices about what to do with our bodies.
It's time to invest in the state and local work that secures lasting power — whether it's elections or community organizing. Whatever you decide to do, every action matters.
We can win this fight.
Let's do this,
