The Supreme Court has officially overturned the life-saving legal precedent of Roe v. Wade, which protected abortion access as a constitutional right for decades.

The decision to overturn Roe was once unthinkable, but now we know what can result from a GOP-controlled government. If Republicans win back the House in November, they have promised to do all they can to continue the onslaught against the right to choose.

I was in high school before Roe was decided. I had friends who had horrible, back-alley abortions. I saw firsthand the toll it took on them. Then in my senior year, Roe v. Wade was decided and women finally had control over their own bodies.

Now, our daughters and future generations will head back into the dark ages if we don’t do everything we can to protect reproductive freedom in Congress.
