Team, Today the U.S. Supreme Court overturned nearly five decades of protection for women facing difficult personal decisions about their life and their very health. For those five decades, the Roe v. Wade decision provided pregnant women the privacy and solemnity to make their own health care decisions. In an instant, the Court struck it down and thus set off what will be a deluge of state legislative actions to further curtail family planning decisions for women, often in crisis. Several state legislatures, including Ohio’s, have signaled they will criminalize abortion, even in instances of rape and incest. Criminalized health care is our astonishing new reality. Family planning is a matter for a woman, her family and her doctor. It doesn’t belong in a courtroom or a politically charged state legislature. Today’s decision underscores what is at stake in our election. Federal efforts to criminalize abortion, defund family planning service providers, and put right-wing politicans in charge of basic health care decisions loom large. Sincerely, --Marcy Kaptur
