Today, the Supreme Court officially overturned Roe v. Wade , taking away our right and our power to control our own deeply personal decisions and turning it over to politicians.

We knew this was coming, but it is still painful to hear about this opinion. I was in high school before Roe v. Wade guaranteed abortion rights, so I remember when people could not access to safe and legal abortion. They resorted to dangerous methods of family planning that hurt and killed far too many.

I am angry about this decision, and I know you are too.

In the coming days, people in 26 states will lose their right to safe and legal abortion or have their access severely limited. Oregon will become a safe haven state for those who can afford to travel for a surgical abortion.

To make matters worse, many state Republican lawmakers who want to control our bodies are pursuing even more extreme anti-abortion legislation, including barring abortion in cases of rape and incest.

Please know we are not giving up hope. Everyone should have the freedom to decide what is best for themselves and their families, including when it comes to abortion.

I will fight to codify Roe v. Wade and guarantee abortion rights nationwide by law, including ending the filibuster if that's what it takes.

I will fight to elect more pro-choice champions, including electing three pro-choice Democratic women who are running for Congress in Oregon.

I will fight to defend access to medical abortions nationwide, including telemedicine prescriptions and postal service delivery.

I will fight to make sure that Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health care servicers have the resources they need to help people through these dark and challenging times.
