Jonathan Saenz, President and attorney for Texas Values released the following statement:

"Roe v. Wade is a Texas case, and as someone who was born in 1973 in Texas, I am so proud that our society and institutions finally recognize life for what it is -- a human right."

Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values issued the following statement:

"This victory for life is the most important court decision in modern history. No longer is the United States an extreme outlier in abortion law with China and North Korea. Today starts a new chapter where all humans can and should be equally protected by the law."

Mary Elizabeth Castle, Senior Policy Advisor for Texas Values said:

"Today’s decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade will go down in history as one of many monumental decisions our nation has made to reverse our course as treating a class of people as unhuman. All babies will have the ultimate right to life fulfilled that is not only guaranteed by our constitution but by our Creator."

Texas Values was part of a legal amicus brief submitted at the US Supreme Court in support of overturning Roe v. Wade and upholding the Mississippi pro-life law.

The court's decision returns the regulation of abortion to the individual states and their state legislatures. At least 13 states currently have a law that will ban most abortions now that the central holding of Roe has been overturned. Last legislative session Texas passed H.B. 1280, the Human Life Protection Act, which is a complete ban on abortion beginning at conception.

H.B. 1280 puts into place civil and criminal penalties for abortionists who violate the law's ban on abortion procedures. HB 1280 was designed to go into effect on the 30 th day after the Supreme Court overrules Roe and Casey.

The State of Texas has set aside $100 million to support pregnant women and mothers. Further, thousands of pregnancy resource centers around the nation are ready to support women facing unplanned pregnancies with free material resources such as diapers, cribs, and car seats, as well as other forms of support and training.

Finally, the Texas Heartbeat Act remains in effect in Texas, having already won at the U.S. Supreme Court three separate times. Today’s ruling confirms the approach and protections of the Texas Heartbeat Act, and ensures that unborn babies will be protected beginning at conception.
