Friends -
We all knew today’s Supreme Court decision striking down Roe v. Wade was coming, but that fact makes it no less infuriating.
What the illegitimate and stolen Supreme Court has done today is a despicable, moral outrage — the execution of a decades-long, far-right plot to destroy the constitutional right to abortion and forever eroding any semblance of legitimacy the Court once held.
Our only course right now is to turn our rage into action.
Our job is to urgently abolish the filibuster, codify Roe v. Wade as the law of the land, and expand the Supreme Court so that we can forever protect the right to abortion.
Today’s decision means that discriminatory, restrictive laws and outright bans on abortion are now on the books in states across the country. And right now, this very moment, we can act by supporting local abortion funds and organizations on the ground in this fight.
That’s why I’m asking, urgently:
The choice before us is simple: Do we keep the filibuster, or do we protect abortion rights?
Do we allow the stolen Supreme Court of the United States to keep a stranglehold on their Republican majority forever, or do we expand it?
Do we allow the far-right to have the last word on Roe v. Wade, or do we fight back?
I know what my answers to these questions are.
I want to be perfectly clear, especially today: Abortion is health care, and health care is a human right.
Today our progressive movement must reaffirm our commitment to this fight. I promise that today and all days, I will do everything in my power as a United States Senator to protect the right to safe and legal abortion for all.
Thank you in advance for splitting a donation to these important organizations today, and for everything you do for our movement.
In solidarity,
Ed Markey
