It feels like the wind has been knocked out of many of us.
Today, the Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion, a pillar of women’s reproductive healthcare for decades.
This decision gives states the right to BAN abortions. While abortion is still legal in Minnesota today, it is expected that half of the states in the U.S. will ban abortions, and I am fearful of what this means for our community. The Republican Majority in Minnesota will do everything in their power to pass abortion bans if we allow them to win House and Senate majorities this November – they have time and time again put forth amendments to limit access to abortion in my four years at the legislature.
We knew this decision was coming but it’s still almost unbelievable. You might be asking yourself what you can do in this moment. My answer is this: sign up to help local DFL State House races and State Senate races win in November. Knock on doors, donate, and work to increase turnout for Democrats up and down the ballot. Now more than ever, we need a pro-choice majority in both chambers of the Minnesota Legislature.
