John, like many of you, my head and my heart are aching right now.

The United States Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the 50-year precedent of Americans having the freedom to make our own safe, and often life-saving, health decisions.

I know what you might be feeling right now — anger, grief, fear, frustration, disbelief — and John, I feel it too.

But remember: We are not helpless.

Today’s decision has rolled our country back generations in our hard-fought advocacy for gender equality, civil rights, and constitutional freedoms for everyone across the nation.

Six judges, representing a small and extreme ideological minority, made a decision that will have an outsized negative impact on every single American’s rights and bodily autonomy.

In addition to life-saving abortion care, this ruling jeopardizes in-vitro fertilization, treatment for endometriosis (a painful pelvic condition), and some contraceptives. And today’s decision laid the groundwork to attack LGBTQ+ rights, birth control, and even interracial marriage next.

John, I want to make clear where I stand:

Judges & politicians do not get a seat at our daughters’ exam tables. Legislators do not get to meddle in our marriages.

I am on the ballot this Tuesday, June 28th, in a Special Election. The candidate who wins will immediately go to Congress and begin voting on our nation’s response.

My opponent has already promised to vote in lock-step with the extremists trying to send us back to the Dark Ages. He doesn’t even support exceptions for rape and incest.

I have and I will continue the fight for reproductive freedom that matters to Nebraskans and so many families across the nation.

I’m prepared to stand up to the anti-choice xxxxxx in Washington and safeguard our rights on day one. From fundraising for Planned Parenthood in the ‘90s, to standing my ground in the Legislature, I’ve been fighting the good fight for decades and I will never stop fighting.
