A ruling for the ages. One that will likely not be reversed for years.
The Supreme Court has struck down Roe v. Wade ([link removed]) — the 1973 landmark ruling that guaranteed the right to abortion.
In many states, including Pennsylvania, people can still access legal abortions, but more than a dozen states will ban or severely limit access to abortions in short order and others may follow suit.
Observers have predicted that Pennsylvania, and specifically Pittsburgh, may become a destination for people seeking abortions.
Efforts to restrict abortion in Pennsylvania have been thwarted by Gov. Tom Wolf in recent years, but his term ends in January 2023. The selection of the next governor could shift power and the direction of abortion rights here.
