Just now, The Supreme Court released their ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning Roe v. Wade.

This ruling is everything we feared. It is a violent, coordinated right-wing assault on our fundamental reproductive rights and we must do everything we can to protect abortion access in Illinois and across the country.

This moment represents the most urgent proof of why we need better Democrats, not just more Democrats. We elected a Democratic majority, we elected a Democratic President, we protested, we showed up at every opportunity to demand our leaders fight harder for our reproductive freedom, but a Democratic party held ransom by a few right-wing members and widespread inaction has left us powerless to stop this onslaught.

The moment we have been warning about for years has arrived. This decision by a handful of unelected right-wing justices will erode access to abortion care for millions of Americans.

Now more than ever, we need leaders in Congress who are ready to take to the streets, shoulder to shoulder with constituents, and demand a right that is life or death for so many women, especially Black women. Can you help me go to Congress and fight for all of us?

Democrats must immediately act to protect what's left of our rights. None of us can afford to be complacent, and none of us can have any doubt about what is at stake. It is Black and brown communities who will be punished first by state-level criminal abortion bans and we must protect everyone seeking care.

1. We must decriminaliize reproductive healthcare on the federal level to ensure that healthcare providers and their patients are not incarcerated for seeking or providing abortion care.
2. We must repeal the Hyde Amendment to ensure that we can spend federal dollars to ensure low-income, Black and brown communities have funding for the care they need.
3. We need to continue funding clinics across the country to ensure that people can still get care in states that have protected our reproductive freedoms.

From every elected leader to each Democratic voter, this is our moment to act. Vote out anti-choice politicians. Demand Congress not let procedural hurdles like the filibuster stand in the way of our fundamental freedoms again.

There is no more staying home, there is no more compromising for our basic rights.

We need more than the bare minimum from our leaders in Congress, we need reproductive justice champions who will fight to expand and protect our freedom every single day. That is why I’m running, and why I’m asking for your help.
