john,
The Supreme Court has officially released their decision that overturns the landmark Roe v. Wade case.
This ruling is devastating and is a massive step backward for a woman's right to choose. With Roe overturned, women in more than half the states in the country have lost the freedom to make the most profoundly impactful healthcare decision of their lives -- when and whether to have a child.
As a doctor, I know that deeply personal reproductive decisions should be between a patient and her doctor. The Supreme Court's ruling today will not end abortion. Instead, it will delay abortion until later into pregnancy where it could cause it to be less safe. And for those forced to carry a pregnancy they did not choose, that pregnancy carries real risks to their health.
This decision won't be the end of attacks on a woman's right to choose. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says a ban that would make abortion illegal nationwide is "possible." This would mean that regardless of where in the country a person lives – from red states to blue states – abortion services are now at stake.
As the only pro-choice woman doctor in Congress, I am dedicated to defending a woman's right to choose. While today's decision is devastating, I will continue to work to ensure that we protect this fundamental right for every woman, no matter where she lives.
Will you please make a donation to my re-election campaign to keep the only pro-choice woman doctor in the House fighting to defend abortion access? >> [link removed]
Thank you,
Kim
