John,

Today is a dark day in America's history — the Supreme Court just overturned Roe v. Wade, setting in motion national consequences.

Supreme Court justices voted 6-3 in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization to ban abortion procedures in almost all cases in Mississippi.

Nearly 50 years after the landmark Roe decision established the constitutional right to legal, safe abortion in 1973, SCOTUS is taking away a constitutional right for the first time in U.S. history. Now, one of the most important decisions a person can make about their body and future will be determined by the state they live in.

After decades of right-wing attacks on reproductive healthcare, this reckless decision is a devastating blow to our movement for reproductive justice. Millions of people will be forced to go to dangerous lengths to get a once-safe procedure, which will in turn cost lives.

To all the women, parents, activists, and families who fought for safe and legal abortions two generations ago, just to see them lost now — I am sorry. I am sorry that the leadership of our country — the country I was willing to fight and die for — has failed you.

I’m a combat veteran. I flew Apache helicopters over Baghdad and Fallujah. I was always ready to fight for my country, and nothing has changed. I will not stand to be made a second-class citizen in the country I put my life on the line to defend.

In Pennsylvania, we can bet Republicans will waste no time banning abortion across the state. We have an extreme GOP gubernatorial candidate who promises to ban abortion in Pennsylvania if elected. But we will not give up without a fight.

While a group of six unelected justices may disagree, a majority of Pennsylvanians support upholding Roe v. Wade. Together, we have a movement behind us. We have history on our side. We hold more power as Americans when we organize, fight, mobilize, vote, and use our collective voices to speak truth to power.

We’re putting every anti-choice politician on notice. For years, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick has supported the extreme effort to regulate our bodies without any consequences.

As your next representative, I will always fight for our fundamental freedoms, bodily autonomy, and privacy because everyone deserves the opportunity to choose their own destiny. I will stand up for every Pennsylvanian to make their own healthcare decisions because I give a damn about you.

Now is the time for us to use the fire lit within us to take action, and set a new path for the next generation so they live in a better, more inclusive world.

I fought for my country because I wanted to provide a better future for myself, and I’m committed to doing the same for women, LGBTQ+ folks, parents, working families, and our most vulnerable communities here in PA-01.

Until we truly live in a country that represents ALL of us, the fight for reproductive freedom must go on.
