Friend,
Today, the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade.
For the past five decades, Americans have had the constitutional right to abortion because of the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe.
But simultaneously for the past five decades, far-right lawmakers have attacked our right to an abortion and schemed to have Roe overturned. And now, with this ruling from the Supreme Court on the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, they’ve gotten their wish.
This decision to overturn Roe means that starting today, lawmakers will be able to make the decision on if abortion is legal in their specific state. And within days, it’s estimated that 13 states that have so-called “trigger laws” will ban all or nearly all abortions.
We knew this ruling was coming, but that doesn't make it any less heartbreaking, enraging, and scary.
This is a shameful time in our history. This decision, led by the far-right majority on the Supreme Court, will impact all Americans at the most intimate levels.
There is no sugarcoating the pain of this moment. But know this: You are not alone. Tonight, we’re showing up to grieve and act together.
At 5 p.m. tonight, activists are holding rallies across the country to protest this ruling and make it abundantly clear that we are staying in this fight.
Act now: Find a rally near you to show our lawmakers that this Supreme Court ruling does not represent us, and we will not accept it.
People in our country, for the first time in history, will now live with fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers. It’s more than understandable to feel angry, confused, and hopeless because of this decision. But if you take one thing from this message, let it be this: The fight for abortion is not over.
For the younger generations, this fight is one for life. We will not let this ruling decide our future for us, especially when over 75% of young Americans support the right to an abortion in all or most cases. Make no mistake, we have the power to build the future we all deserve — over 70 million Americans ages 18–35 are now eligible to vote, more than any other age group.
And come this November, we will hold every single representative who supports the overturning of Roe v. Wade accountable and vote in a new wave of elected officials that will champion reproductive rights and do whatever it takes to protect abortion at the federal level.
The right to make decisions for our own bodies should have never been up for debate. All of us deserve the right to access abortion when we need it and on the timeline we choose, no matter what our zip code is.
Remember — you are not alone. We’re all in this fight for the long haul, and there is so much we can do together, starting with tonight. Find a rally near you and we’ll see you there.
In this fight with you,
NextGen America
