Friend,

My name is Rochelle Garza, and I am your Democratic Nominee for Texas Attorney General.

Even though we had time to prepare for this news, it doesn’t make hearing it any easier. In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade. I’m angry, and I know you are too.

Friend, this fight is not new to me. As a civil rights attorney, I represented Jane Doe, a 17-year-old in immigration detention who was denied her right to access abortion care. I took on the Trump administration, then-D.C. Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and Texas AG Ken Paxton and WON. That case resulted in the “Garza Notice,” which mandates the federal government notify all teens in immigration detention of their right to abortion care without obstruction or fear of retaliation.

As a new mom, I refuse to let my daughter, and all of our children, grow up in a state and country that does not value their health and their human right to decide what happens to their bodies.

Our mothers and grandmothers fought for our rights before and won. Now, it's our turn to continue the fight and win for our daughters and everyone’s access to abortion care. The fight for reproductive freedom is generations long and sadly not over. We can’t give up now.

Last year, Texas Republicans in the Legislature passed an extreme trigger law –– banning abortion access at any stage of pregnancy and criminalizing abortion providers if Roe v. Wade was overturned. That means that 30 days from now millions of Texans will have their fundamental right to reproductive freedom stripped from them. Millions of Texans — relegated to second-class status.

It doesn't have to be this way. Sixteen states have protected abortion access at the state level. Texas could be one of those states, but we’re being held hostage by Republicans who have declared an all-out war on reproductive rights.

Texans know that reproductive healthcare and access to abortion care are moral imperatives, and an issue of racial, economic, and gender justice. I’m committed to restoring abortion access and defending the rights of ALL Texans whenever they’re threatened.

As your Attorney General, I will work tirelessly to reinstate and expand abortion access so Texans can control their own bodies, and their futures.

So I’m asking: will you split a $7 donation between my campaign and the Texas Democratic Party, so we can make our state a safe place for women and pregnant people again?

Today’s news is nothing short of devastating. Know that I’m thinking of you, I’m angry with you, and I won’t stop fighting for you.
