Statement on Roe v. Wade Being Overturned

Austin Ruse, President of C-Fam (Center for Family & Human Rights)

We congratulate the U.S. Supreme Court on returning the contentious issue of abortion to the American people.

By reversing Roe v. Wade and correctly deciding Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization, the U.S. Supreme Court has set an admirable example of judicial restraint and rigorous constitutional interpretation we hope will influence courts and legislatures far beyond our borders.

Roe v. Wade cast a dark shadow on our country and the entire world. It was a primordial example of judicial overreach to promote abortion that judges and politicians across the world blindly followed. With the Dobbs ruling, that tide may finally recede, and an era of respect for the dignity of human life and the rule of law may finally beckon.

It is not really known how many millions of children died from abortion since 1973. We do not know the millions of mothers who have been harmed by this brutal sprocedure. We pray they find comfort and support.

We urge pro-life Americans and their representatives to immediately adopt laws to protect the unborn and offer support and assistance to mothers and children in need including in U.S. foreign policy. “From the American People,” the motto that accompanies all foreign assistance, should never assist in the destruction of life.

We urge our friends and allies around the world to follow our example and continue to work to protect the unborn child.
