Dear Friends,
In 2012, the Black Friday craze created an opportunity for harnessing the power of philanthropy, and it stuck: Giving Tuesday.
And so after eating all the Turkey we can, waking up at 4 AM to stand in line at Black Friday sales, and preparing our credit cards and tablets for Cyber Monday, we take a moment to consider how we can use the power of charitable giving to celebrate what we appreciate and value most.
At the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, this means partnering with us to protect religious liberty, the cornerstone of our First Amendment freedoms, one Supreme Court case at a time. It means helping those who are bravely taking a stand to protect their freedoms and yours:
- The Buck Family, who are defending St. Vincent's Catholic Charities in Michigan from the ACLU and Attorney General Nessel's campaign to shut them down for their beliefs about marriage,
- A Seventh-day Adventist who lost his job for observing the Sabbath, but wants to protect others from the discrimination he has experienced,
- An independent contractor in Idaho forced to choose between violating his deeply held religious beliefs or losing his livelihood,
- A religious school defending its right choose who is qualified to teach the faith.
These and the many other clients we are representing at the Becket Fund help create the stories of individual courage that make up our robust American tradition of religious freedom.
They need your help, and so do we.
This #GivingTuesday, consider a gift to Becket, and protect the tradition of freedom we are privileged to enjoy as free citizens of the United States of America.
