Jack, I am angry. On Wednesday morning where I live in San Francisco, a shooter brought a gun onto a commuter train—a train that I take all the time—got into a heated argument, and killed one person while injuring another.
And the next morning, the Supreme Court's extremist supermajority—in a 6-3 decision authored by Clarence Thomas—overruled the right of states to curb our gun violence epidemic. The decision overturned a 100-year-old New York gun law on concealed weapons, which could now mean that as many as 20,000 more guns will be on the streets of New York.
Sign the petition: The right-wing Supreme Court is out of control. We must reform the Supreme Court by expanding the number of Justices to effectively curb gun violence.

The Supreme Court striking down concealed carry regulations will drastically limit the ability of local, state, and federal governments to address our nation’s gun violence epidemic. And it's outrageous that six right-wing Justices (three appointed for life by Donald Trump) can do this.
The Court is supposed to be independent and fair, protecting our rights and enforcing the rule of law. But it already rewrote the Constitution in District of Columbia v. Heller to make it easier to strike down gun violence prevention measures, and now even the most basic protections are at risk. It's clear that an extremist supermajority is pursuing a partisan political agenda.
We can reform the Supreme Court by having Congress pass legislation to expand the number of Justices—a number that has been stuck at nine since 1869. If Congress does not expand the Supreme Court and restore balance, it will give a green light to the conservative judicial activists on the Court to strike down common-sense gun safety laws.
