New January 6 testimony reveals that Rep. Mo Brooks asked the Trump administration for “general, all purpose pardons” for every single Republican that voted to overturn the 2020 election.
After Rep. Matt Gaetz cited Richard Nixon in his request for a pardon for any crime he had ever committed, including alleged sex trafficking, a Trump adviser reminded him that “even Nixon’s pardon was never nearly that broad.”
Friend, this is worse than Watergate. This was an attack on our democracy so severe that Republicans in Congress begged for pardons that Nixon couldn’t dream of.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the January 6 panel, said, “The only reason you ask for a pardon is if you think you've committed a crime.”
After the Watergate hearings riveted an entire nation in 1973 and brought down Richard Nixon, voters flooded the polls in 1974 to throw out Nixon’s Republican allies.
