John,
Councilmember Green has long championed transformative solutions that work for everyone across Philadelphia.
This is why, today, we are proud to announce that the City Council has voted unanimously to enact Derek’s FY2023 budget proposal.
Residents of Philadelphia have been hit hard by the effects of inflation on basic household necessities and the soaring price of gas. Derek’s budget proposal will help to reduce expenses and lift financial burdens for residents.
The proposal will go into effect July 1, reducing property and wage taxes for residents and business taxes for small businesses. Its passage is due to Derek’s leadership and ability to work with others to find solutions.
This proposal was a compromise effort to address the Mayor’s increase in property assessments, which would have significantly increased residents' property taxes, and lacked the urgency to bring about real change for our community members and neighbors.
The new budget will also address issues of policing and public safety and deliver solutions to our city’s ongoing gun violence epidemic. By increasing police personnel, installing police security cameras, and fixing hazardous traffic systems, our city will finally receive the transformative investment that it deserves. Finally, the new budget makes a number of investments to address issues like trash, abandoned cars, streetlights, etc. that impact the quality of life of citizens.
To all who stepped up and supported Derek’s resolve to build a better Philadelphia: thank you. Our team can’t do it without you.
