John, I’ll just be blunt: With a 50-50 split in the Senate, we don’t have the votes for a lot of the things we need to do right now.
That includes bypassing the Supreme Court and abolishing the filibuster to enshrine Roe v. Wade into federal law.
But this November, we’ve got a chance to expand our Senate majority and turn things around: Democrats have a golden opportunity to flip Republican-held Senate seats in states that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won in 2020.
That includes Pennsylvania, where our new Democratic nominee, John Fetterman, supports ending the filibuster to protect abortion rights and deliver results for working people. CNN says this is one of the Senate seats most likely to flip from red to blue.
But he’s up against a Trump-endorsed TV doctor who’s spending millions to try to buy himself a Senate seat. John needs our help to fight back and win from the grassroots level.
John is my favorite type of fighter, because he fights from the heart — and he wears his heart on his sleeve.
You may have seen that he doesn’t look like a typical politician — including his tattoos. He’s got the ZIP code 15104 tattooed on one arm, representing the town of Braddock, where he served as mayor for 13 years before getting elected lieutenant governor. And his other arm has nine different dates tattooed on it, representing times when violence took the lives of Braddock residents while he was mayor.
As mayor, he worked with his community to tackle gun violence head on, and he says his proudest accomplishment was going 5 and a half years without a death from gun violence.
As senator, he’s going to keep fighting hard for Pennsylvania families — and families across the country.
But his celebrity opponent, Dr. Oz, is a whole different story. He’s kissed up to Donald Trump, he’s been called a “scam artist” and a “quack” for spreading health misinformation, and he’s said Roe v. Wade was “wrongly decided.”
And Mitch McConnell’s pet Super PAC is set to spend tens of millions of dollars on ads to win in Pennsylvania and flip the Senate.
John, we can’t let that happen. We’ve got to fight alongside John Fetterman to protect and expand our Democratic Senate majority.
Thanks for being a part of this,
Elizabeth
