This is a bit concerning, John.

Election forecasters at Sabato's Crystal Ball have shifted their outlook in CA-45 to "Lean Republican.” They are now giving far-right Republican Michelle Steel the slight edge in this race.

It's no secret midterm elections can be tough for the party in power. California also saw fairly low turnout in the primary. Crystal Ball cites these headwinds, but they also point to the cash advantage that Michelle Steel currently holds. That's thanks to the tens of thousands of dollars she’s received from corporate PACs and special interests like Big Oil and the insurance industry.

Despite these challenges, CA-45 is still widely considered a “key battleground” for House control. Democrats hold a voter registration advantage here, and President Biden won this district by 6 points. Our voters are out there, and with the necessary resources, we can buck the national trendlines.

The best way to show the pundits, election analysts, and Michelle Steel that we will flip this seat is by sending an unmistakable message about our grassroots strength. So we need to ask:

In light of this news, we need to double down on our efforts to regain momentum. Let's send a message about the true strength of this grassroots team! Will you send in your first $3 donation before our FEC deadline hits on June 30th?

We’ve known that this race is going to be competitive. Now is the time to build on the groundwork we’ve laid out over the past several months. Every dollar we invest now will go a long way to helping us win in the Fall.
