It’s time.

Tomorrow morning, when town clerks’ offices open across the state, early voting will begin in this historic election.

This evening, I’m reflecting on why I got into this race. As all of us do at some point in our lives, I faced an important decision last fall – do I step back, or do I step forward?

I chose to step forward because I know that, at this moment, we need a congresswoman who will work with anyone, regardless of party, to do what is right for Vermont. We need a congresswoman who will stand with everyday Vermonters, not special interests or Super PACs. We need a congresswoman who will focus on getting results, not getting credit.

The challenges facing our state and nation are immense – from climate to health care to workforce to Paid Family and Medical leave, we have no time to waste.

I know these challenges because like so many Vermonters I’ve lived these challenges. I’ve had to work two jobs to pay the rent. I’ve stared down a choice between a paycheck and caring for someone I love. As Lieutenant Governor, I’ve seen climate change begin to impact family farms like the one I grew up on. I stepped forward, because our greatest challenges cannot be solved by Vermont alone.

I will serve in Congress the same way I’ve run this campaign, by meeting Vermonters where they are, listening to what they need most, and never losing focus. It has been the honor of my life to serve Vermont as your Lieutenant Governor, and every day on the campaign trail I fall more in love with this state.
