Dear Friend,

The U.S. Supreme Court has just ensured that “guns everywhere” is about to
get much, much worse. [ [link removed] ]Help us double down on standing up for families.

In the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen decision
released this morning, the Court struck down a 108-year-old New York law
requiring anyone who wants a permit to carry a concealed handgun outside
the home to show “proper cause.” [1] The ruling severely restricts the
ability of states to keep public spaces safe from gun violence, opening
the way for people to bring guns everywhere moms and families don’t want
them – parks, schools, churches, malls, grocery stores, public
transportation… literally everywhere.

[ [link removed] ]The situation is critical, and MomsRising needs to amp up our work now
to keep families and communities safe. Can you make an emergency donation
to help us stay powered up and keep raising our voices?

This U.S. Supreme Court decision is enormously harmful because concealed
carry increases “guns everywhere,” and “guns everywhere” increases gun
violence. For example, since Wisconsin loosened its concealed carry laws
in 2011, it has experienced more gun homicides, more armed aggravated
assaults, and more gun-related homicides and assaults against law
enforcement officers. [2]

Meanwhile, because of pressure from people like you across the nation,
momentum is growing for gun safety policy in a good way in Washington, DC
where the U.S. Senate is poised to finally pass the first gun safety
legislation in 26 years, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. [ [link removed] ] This
legislation would, among other things, enhance background checks for gun
buyers under age 21, encourage state Red Flag laws, partially close the
dating partner loophole, and fund school safety and mental health. While
we applaud these baby steps, the measures are nowhere near what we need to
stop horrific mass shootings like Buffalo and Uvalde and fight our
epidemic of gun violence caused by “guns everywhere.” That would require
truly comprehensive reform, including raising the age of gun purchases,
air-tight universal background checks, banning military-style assault
rifles and high-capacity magazines, confirming a permanent director of the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (who leads on
enforcement of gun laws), and so much more.

[3]Moms and families have so much work to do to fight “guns everywhere”
and decrease gun violence. If you can, please make an emergency donation
now to fuel this critical work.

Together we will never – never – stop fighting for the safety of our
families and communities.

In solidarity and grim determination,

- Kristin, Gloria, Monifa, Nate, and the whole MomsRising.org &
