That's the standard width of crates mother pigs spend most of their lives in.

A recent Mercy For Animals video

exposes catastrophic effects industrial pig farming has on both animals and the environment.

Footage from some of the many undercover investigations Mercy For Animals has released in the United States over the years shows pregnant pigs suffering in gestation crates, metal cages only inches larger than their bodies—preventing the animals from lying down comfortably or even turning around. We also see footage from our recent drone investigations revealing massive buildings, crammed with animals, and giant pits of waste.

Last month, McDonald's claimed they would remove gestation crates from their supply chain by 2024, pushing back a 10-year goal set in 2012.
