One evening, Kilynn Johnson from Grays Ferry in Philadelphia noticed she felt short of breath. However, did not think much of it, and blamed it on asthma.
A few nights later, she began to vomit uncontrollably. A trip to the doctor gave the shocking news that she had a rare type of gallbladder cancer. It didn't take much to find the cause of Kilynn's unusual cancer--all her life, Kilynn's lived across the street from a massive oil refinery, its lattice of rusting pipes and smokestacks streaked with soot greeting her every day.
Our reliance on fossil fuels disproportionally affects Black and brown communities like Grays Ferry. We need to act now to transition our country towards a green economy and ensure energy security and environmental justice for every household.

The climate emergency and skyrocketing prices are leaving millions of families grappling with energy insecurity. Big Oil and fossil fuel companies are padding their bottom line by gouging prices.
We must move beyond fossil fuels--which are subject to corporate price manipulation and which also rapidly accelerate global warming--and invest in clean energy technologies. Public investments in clean energy are affordable, renewable, and will help us break our reliance on Big Oil.
The Energy Security and Independence Act would provide $100 billion for investment in the U.S.'s renewable energy supply chain and programs to lower utility prices. It would help ensure U.S. energy security benefits us--NOT the fossil fuel industry.
Join us in demanding Congress act now to transition off fossil fuels. Sign the petition to Congress: Pass the Energy Security and Independence Act
