John,

As a former professor, I often say being in
Congress involves a lot of teaching and learning. Learning from experts
and from my constituents, and teaching the public about how government
policy affects them.

Today I bring you a lesson on “end of quarter fundraising deadlines.” (But
if you already know what they are and want to chip in, you can do so

What is the end of quarter fundraising deadline?

Every three months, campaigns are required by the Federal Election
Commission to report how much money they have raised. This quarter ends on
June 30th, so we’re in the midst of a big push to make sure we report a
strong number.

Does anyone actually check this?

Yes! Republican super PACs are watching these numbers to see which races
are worth investing in. They’ve already put millions into attack ads here
in CA-47, but how much more they spend this summer is still to be seen,
and reporting a strong number can help keep them from spending even more
on our race.

Why do you need my money anyways?

I’m really proud to be one of only *six* Members of Congress who don’t
take corporate PAC or lobbyist money. But that means I rely on grassroots
donors—most of our contributions are less than $25.

I need a well funded campaign because this will be my toughest race yet.
This district is made up of equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans and
historically midterm elections are tough for the sitting president’s
party. On top of that, the LA media market is the second most expensive in
the country, meaning we need millions of dollars to run the TV ad campaign
we need.

[ [link removed] ]If you’re able to contribute ahead of June 30th, I’d be so
appreciative. Your support will help us end the quarter strong and win
this race.
