John,

We've just achieved a big win for kids. Today, the FDA ordered all Juul products off the market. This is the most significant action the FDA has taken to reverse the youth e-cigarette epidemic.

It's a prime example of how action from advocates like you can have a profound impact. Your petition signatures, letters to decision makers, educational events, donations to the fight and more have all contributed to today's outcome.

Juul, more than any other product or company, has been responsible for creating and fueling the youth e-cigarette epidemic. Juul introduced a sleek, cool, easy-to-hide product that was sold in appealing flavors including menthol, delivered massive doses of nicotine that can quickly addict kids, and was launched with youth-oriented marketing. The result: A staggering increase in youth e-cigarette use, with many kids becoming addicted to these nicotine-loaded products.

Early Juul ads targeting youth.

But Juul's removal is just one more step in a long battle. Here's what we're doing now:

  1. Working to get FDA to finish the job and eliminate ALL flavored e-cigarettes, including menthol-flavored products and flavored disposable products like Puff Bar that have become so popular with kids.

  2. Working in court to stop Juul and other companies from overturning the FDA’s actions to protect kids.

  3. Working at the state and local level to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products.

Today's victory over Juul isn't the only good news we got this week.

On Tuesday, the Biden Administration and the FDA committed to reducing nicotine levels in cigarettes to minimally or non-addictive levels, promising to issue a proposed rule by May 2023. This is a truly game-changing proposal that would prevent kids from becoming addicted to tobacco, accelerate declines in smoking and save millions of lives from cancer and other tobacco-related diseases. But these gains will only be realized if the Administration and the FDA demonstrate a full-throated commitment to finalizing and implementing this proposal.

We'll be working to make sure that they do.

As always, thanks for standing with us.

Sincerely,
