Dear Friend,

Giving Massachusetts Drivers Licenses to illegal immigrants is a bad idea. The good news--you and I have can SAY NO to the Legislature and repeal the bad law.

As soon as the Legislature voted to override the Governor’s veto, we put together a referendum question for November’s ballot.

With you on the team, we WILL repeal this bad law. If you're already on board, volunteer to help or contribute by clicking here. If you'd need more information on how important repealing this measure is, read on.

First, I want to tell you a little bit about myself. In 2011, my son Matthew was dragged a quarter-mile to his death by an illegal immigrant while horrified witnesses were banging on the truck trying to stop him.

Matthew was a kind, caring, fun loving young man who lived life to the fullest, was a role model in the community and a wonderful son, brother, grandson, and friend. He had recently graduated from Framingham State University, had plans of becoming a police officer. Matthew had his whole life ahead of him. Matthew is deeply loved and missed by his family and friends.

Since losing my son, I have become an advocate for enforcing immigration laws and putting Americans first. I testified against this law at the Statehouse, and I am shocked it passed the Legislature.

We are a country of rules and laws, and those rules and laws must be followed if we are to live in harmony together.

This new law circumvents good immigration policy. It places an undue burden on the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

The law, should it come into effect, will hurt the integrity of our elections, creating a backdoor for non-citizens with a history of flaunting our country’s laws to participate in elections.

And, worst of all, giving licenses to people who have illegally entered our country, people who may well be hiding records of violence and lawbreaking in their native countries, will open the door to more tragic, unnecessary deaths.

This law would open the door to more suffering for families like mine.

Together, we can stop this law from taking effect. Between now and August 24, we must collect 60,000 signatures on our petition. While we have just 8 weeks to gather signatures, it’s a very achievable goal. Our team has experience, and with you on the team, we will get the question on the November ballot. To make sure of success in November, we’re planning a vigorous state-wide campaign. Our campaign needs to purchase radio and television time and produce commercials. We’ll have yard signs and banners, because we want to make sure our message gets out to every voter: NO DRIVERS LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

Can you help with a donation? The ballot committee, FairAndSecureMA, can accept contributions from individuals, campaigns, associations, and corporations. Your contribution of $50, $250, $500, or even more would go a long way toward helping us meet our goals. Click here, or visit FairAndSecureMA.com to make a donation.

You and I have a great opportunity to tell the Legislature that we want strong immigration law, we want immigration laws enforced, and we expect the RMV to protect the safety of our streets.

Time is short. Your help today can make a big difference.

We’re going to win this.

Sincerely,
Maureen Maloney
Chair
