The situation is escalating quickly.
Devastating earthquake in Afghanistan:
Help now »
John, I wrote to you yesterday when I first learned about the news of the 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan that tragically killed more than 1,000 people. I have 3 important updates about the current situation I need to share with you:

1. More than 1,000 people have been killed and at least 1,800 homes have been destroyed by the earthquake, with thousands more people expected to be displaced.

2. IRC teams are already on the ground providing lifesaving assistance, delivering first aid, emergency cash assistance, and mobile health services to people most affected by the earthquake. Despite severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and mudslides, we were one of the first organizations to respond.

3. Funding is needed now to save lives and support essential services.

Please, can you rush an emergency donation for children and families in Afghanistan and crisis zones worldwide? You can use this link to make a donation » https://go.rescue.org/e/937243/te-afghanistan-earthquake-2022/3vsw5/132447277?h=qkSEeC2GM0aGEiBsiIIMDh5OtaVIBL_J-wcQVlNLiWY

My colleagues in Afghanistan are hard at work responding to this crisis and providing assistance to those injured and in need.

You will be hearing from me and my colleagues in the coming weeks to inform you about what we're seeing on the ground, and what further assistance is needed.

In moments of crisis like these, I'm constantly inspired by supporters like you, John, who never fail to step up in an emergency. I am so grateful that you are on our team.

John,

I woke up seeing this devastating headline my colleague shared from Afghanistan:
Afghan earthquake: 1,000 people killed and 1,500 wounded, official says — BBC
John, this is an awful and rapidly developing emergency. We're ramping up our efforts to raise emergency response funds now.

The IRC is responding on the ground by deploying mobile health teams, working with authorities to provide support, cash assistance and assessing the area as the situation develops.

This is a desperate situation — especially for those who have already been pushed to the brink with political turmoil in Afghanistan for the past year.

You can use this link to immediately rush your emergency donation for children and families in Afghanistan and in crisis zones worldwide: https://go.rescue.org/e/937243/donate-afghanistan/3vswg/132447277?h=qkSEeC2GM0aGEiBsiIIMDh5OtaVIBL_J-wcQVlNLiWY

With your emergency donation, IRC teams can continue to rush supplies and aid to those who need it most — while continuing our critical programs around the world.

Thank you in advance for your immediate action and your compassion at this urgent hour of need. We will continue to keep you updated on our emergency response and what we are seeing on the ground.
