Our bill to provide communities of color with the equal opportunities to accumulate wealth and achieve financial security.

Barbara Lee for Congress

John,

Segregation, systemic racism, and generations of slavery all contributed to and perpetuated the racial wealth gap divide that still exists in America today.

These disparities in opportunity plague our communities and devastate families. As of 2019, the average Black and Latinx family held just 15 to 20% of the net worth of the average white family.

That’s why earlier this week, I was proud to vote to pass H.R. 2543, the Financial Services Racial Equity, Inclusion, and Economic Justice Act — a comprehensive economic justice package to advance racial justice.

Everything from lending discrimination and language access barriers, to disparities in employment and banking deserts contribute to a lack of fair access to credit and other financial services for people of color — which build barriers to homeownership, entrepreneurship, and other wealth building opportunities.

By addressing these disparities, we can help reduce costs, create jobs, and strengthen the resilience of our economy for everyone.

The Senate now needs to pass our bill to help level the playing field and provide underserved communities with the equal opportunities to accumulate wealth and achieve financial security.

Now, I need your help to keep up the fight in Congress. If you’re able, will you make a donation to my re-election campaign so I can continue fighting to advance racial and economic justice for all?
