Friend,
In a major win for all New Jerseyans, Governor Phil Murphy, Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senator Vin Gopal announced a back-to-school sales tax holiday yesterday; waiving New Jersey’s sales tax on back-to-school supplies, in another major effort to make New Jersey more affordable for working families.

The 10 day sales tax holiday on all back-to-school supplies will run August 27 - September 5, apply to both online and in-person sales, and cover items used by students in pre-K through college and university, including: - School supplies, such as pens and pencils, notebooks, and binders
- School art supplies, such as paints and paintbrushes, clay, and glazes
- School instructional materials, such as reference books, reference maps, globes, textbooks, and workbooks
- Computers
-
School computer supplies, such as computer storage equipment, printers, and personal digital assistants
- Sports & recreational equipment, such as bicycle helmets
As inflation and higher prices continue to be the central concern for families across the country, New Jersey Democrats have been working to keep more of people’s hard earned money in their pockets. We know and understand that things have not been easy, which is why our Governor and Democrats in the Legislature have been prioritizing the current needs of New Jersey families. As the costs of basic goods continue to rise, we will continue to directly address those cost burdens where we can and this tax holiday will cut the costs on the most essential items needed for educational success.
Alongside the newly expanded ANCHOR tax relief program, Democrats in New Jersey have made giving money directly back to the taxpayers, at a time when it is needed most, our central concern and will continue to make providing relief to all New Jerseyans a top priority.
