John,

Although some classes are no longer in session, there’s still plenty of work to do to fight anti-LGBTQ+ attacks and ensure schools are safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ students and faculty.

One crucial way to get involved over the summer break is to attend local school board meetings! [[link removed]]

Many LGBTQ+ students share their stories at local school board meetings in the wake of harmful anti-LGBTQ+ bills — these meetings are key when it comes to making schools the safe and inclusive learning environments we need them to be.

We are living in a time in which some are attempting to embed hate, exclusion, fear and bias in our schools and communities via school curriculum and environments.

We must not be silent when students’ lives are at stake. Now is the time to use our voices and collective power to call for safer and more inclusive schools for all, and there’s no better place to start than your own community.

We put school board members in power by voting for them in elections, and it’s their job to meet the needs of their community and advocate for the safety of ALL students.

You have the power to hold your school board members accountable by showing up to school board meetings and advocating on behalf of LGBTQ+ students. Click here to find your school board and the dates and times of upcoming meetings: [[link removed]]

From school board meetings to the polls in November, we will rise up everywhere to show our power and support for LGBTQ+ youth.

In solidarity,
Key Jackson,
Deputy Executive Director for Programs & Power Building
