Tips for Subscribers
It is getting hot outside, and that means the food scraps get yuckier faster.?Do not wait until your bucket is full and?avoid the rotting by dropping off scraps weekly. If that is not possible, freeze your scraps and dump them in the bucket when you are ready to take them to the collection site. To fight odors, clean your buckets with vinegar?and baking soda.
"Subscriber reminder:"?The program is growing and we want to make it as easy for you as possible. After a review of our program, we've determined that the weight data we collect suffices to track performance. You no longer need to text in when you drop off!

July is Smart Irrigation Month [ [link removed] ]
*Conserve water this summer!*
July is "Smart Irrigation Month" [ [link removed] ]. It is hot and dry and a great time to get serious about learning how to make your outdoor water use more efficient. During the summer months, up to 50% of your water use may be outdoors. That is treated drinking water going on your lawn. Check out these tips on how to conserve water this summer:
* *Water deeply and infrequently. *Watering less encourages deeper root systems. City ordinance permits watering twice a week but try to water only if needed. Sign up for the Weekly Watering Advice at "com" [ [link removed] ] to get weekly watering needs localized to your neighborhood.
* *Water in the early morning hours.* Sunlight, heat and wind increase evaporation during hot, sunny summer days. No watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
* *Set your mower higher.* Taller grass (at least 3 inches) holds moisture better and encourages deeper roots that are more drought tolerant.
* *Use lots of mulch.* Mulch retains moisture, reduces soil temperature, and reduces water waste from runoff.
* *Manage your irrigation system.* Inspect monthly, make adjustments, schedule your controller and install a rain/freeze sensor.
Fort Worth Water offers several classes this summer and fall to help. Coming up:

FFA members participate in litter cleanup
Future Farmers of America plan litter cleanups in Fort Worth
The Texas Future Farmers of America (FFA) Association is once again partnering with Keep Fort Worth Beautiful during their annual FFA convention in July. During their stay in Fort Worth, KFWB will host days of service for approximately 800 FFA members and volunteers with litter cleanups throughout the city.
Over the course of two days, these dedicated high school students will be cleaning up areas such as Eugene McCray Park at Lake Arlington, Carter Park, Sycamore Park, and Trinity Park, among others. Their days of service will also include landscaping projects at the Fort Worth Nature Center and Refuge, the Rolling Hills Tree Farm, and the Tandy Hills Natural Area. We can't wait to see the difference they will make in our city!
