People across the country are being forced to make a difficult decision. The high prices of staples are driving families to seek out assistance from food pantries ([link removed]) and other social safety-net programs.
These programs are lifesavers for those in financial need, but for the 21 million Americans without an ID, they may be out of reach.
Most food pantries require a photo ID to receive groceries With supporting documents, the average cost of an ID is around $40. In many situations, that cost is significantly higher.
This leaves many Americans struggling to get an ID.

Benjamin was one of those individuals. While unhoused in Nashville, he was unable to pick up food from the local food pantry because he didn't have an ID. Our Sister Organization, Spread The Vote + Project ID, helped him to get the ID that he needed to eat.
At Project ID Action Fund, we think that's unacceptable. If an ID is needed to get a job, secure housing and put food on the table, it should be accessible to all. This is why we're fighting, both at the local and national level for more equitable ID laws, but we can't do this without your help.
The 2nd quarter ends in just over a week and we have not met our fundraising goals. This means that Project ID Action Fund is at risk of not being able to finish important work with lawmakers. We can't let this happen!
