Before I get started, let me warn you: This is not going to be a pleasant email to read, just as it was not an easy one to write.

I’ll get straight to the point: All signs are pointing to Roe v. Wade being overturned as early as tomorrow morning.

As we understand it, Justice Sotomayor is fighting like hell to delay this decision from being released, to give Americans more time to prepare and plan a counterstrategy to save our right to choose.

She’s been trying to persuade her colleagues behind the scenes for months now to turn back from the destructive course they’re on, but she just doesn’t have the numbers on her side.

We were hoping Chief Justice Roberts might intervene to rein in the more extreme Republican-appointed justices on the bench, but it looks like that’s not going to happen.

How “convenient” that they will release this decision changing the trajectory of millions of Americans’ lives on a Friday, just in time to skip town for the weekend – or maybe even for an entire summer recess.

Have you ever been “crop dusted” in a grocery store aisle? Or “doorbell ditched” by prankster kids? This feels like the judicial equivalent – drop something that stinks on your helpless victim, then run like hell … laughing all the way home.

This devastating revocation of a fundamental civil right has been a long time coming, as Republicans strategize their moves years or even decades in advance, while we Democrats have historically been left to react.

That must change, and it must change today.

Make no mistake about it, this year’s midterms are what will determine the future of this country.

The right has become more and more extreme, simply because that is what is winning elections for them. The more extreme they get, the further their far-right base is willing to go for them – they’ll donate more, they’ll volunteer more, and they’ll drag themselves across broken glass to vote for them.

Hell, they’ll even throw away their lives storming the Capitol for them.

Let me repeat that, very clearly: The Radical Right is incentivizing Republican politicians, both financially and politically, to pass extreme right-wing ideologies into law.

Let me give you some examples of what those ideologies include:

• Making women, racial and religious minorities, and LGBTQ+ people second-class citizens – stripping away our right to live, love, marry, and build our families the way we want.
   
• Making it more difficult or even impossible for minorities, the poor, and the disabled to vote.
   
• Banning gender-affirming health care for trans children and teens and forcing gay kids back into the closet at school.
   
• Turning our schools into war bunkers, with teachers armed to the teeth and kids wrapped in Kevlar.
   
• Allowing Republican state legislatures to simply overrule and overturn any election results they don’t like.

Now do you get the idea? We’re headed for a totalitarian hellscape if we don’t defeat these folks on November 8.

I know you understand what’s at stake – the problem is, our fellow Democrats don’t seem to be paying attention. If they were, they’d be flooding Democratic organizers and campaigns with enough money to compete with the fired-up far-right … and they just aren’t.

So, it’s on those of us who are paying attention to raise the roof off this country and pour into the streets (peacefully), and that we shall do.

We also need to be smart. We must keep control of the Senate at all costs, and that is why you have seen us step up our efforts for the Senate fund.

In my eyes, nothing else matters right now. We have to save our country, we have to save democracy, we need to restore our right to choose, and so much more.
