John,

In New York, we have a 100-year-old law that requires proper cause and a permit to carry a handgun outside of the home. During all that time, it's kept guns out of the hands of countless people who shouldn't have them.

The Supreme Court just struck that law down, not only affecting public safety here in New York, but putting other states at risk of losing this vital protection.

We don't need more guns on our streets, John.

Just weeks after Buffalo and Uvalde, the last thing anyone should be doing is weakening gun safety protections. We need bold and effective gun safety legislation. The legislation winding its way through Congress this week is a good start, but it's not enough.

If elected to Congress, I will fight for universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and those who are a danger to our communities.

I will fight to ban the sale and production of ghost guns nationwide.

I will also fight to ban assault weapons. No civilian needs an AR-15, John. The gruesome details of the Uvalde massacre make it clear – again – that we need to keep these horrific weapons off our streets and out of the wrong hands.

We need leaders who will work to protect our families, not rake in checks from the corrupt, dangerous gun lobby.
